Angelfish Fry Died

I always use egg yolk as the first food. And I don't like brine shrimp because of the salt content. Feeding egg yolk as per my thread " First Food" is easy and safe for all fry. Give the fry as much water as you can.
I disagree so take your choice. There is research that shows egg yolk is not good for fry. I use baby brine shrimp and my fry flourish.

I’m currently rearing fry and iv found full bellies and clean water is a trick , I change the water every 48hrs and feed 3x a day I only use the food I have just crushed into a powder

Baby brine shrimp is to large for a lot of fry and the salt content is foreign to the babies, you will loose a lot through starvation feeding brine shrimp as a first food.

I will give you a little run down on how I breed angelfish commercially. We had a stock tank full of adults we would select the ones we wanted to breed with each other and separate them into their own tanks about 100 liters. We would let them spawn, out of 20 pairs usually between 15 and 18 pairs would spawn. As soon as the eggs were laid we would remove the parents, and put an air stone in the tank to fan the eggs. When the fry became free swimming we would feed egg yolk for about the first three weeks, then dry food. The fry would then be sorted and moved to 1000 liters raising tanks. Trying to raise fry in a gallon of water is not a good idea, the fry need huge volumes of water so they grow on.

I fed egg yolk to my fry twice I think I stopped because it was really messy for me as I have greedy hands and over feed everything and I’m not using a cycled tank or the mess wouldn’t have bothered me so much , I have around 20-30 electric blue acara fry I’m currently growing not to keep it’s just a bit of fun il try and sell them or swap them for plants or something because I have no room left in my main tank , there tank is 25l 30cm long , how long would you say they can stay in there ?

Firstly have you seen my thread " First Food" that shows how to feed egg yolk. Secondly I have just raised 25 electric yellows in 100 liters but I'm moving them out and are now down to 9. I would be moving them to 100 liters and then at about 1-2 inches selling a few at a time. Have a look at my thread " first algae disc for my cichlids"

Il check out the threads thanks :good: problem being at the moment is I have either a small 25l tank or my fully stocked 500l , being married my money isn’t mine and have to persuade the boss to let me have pocket money now and again and I don’t think she sees new fish stuff in the budget this month lol assuming my tank is well fed and the largest active mouth is there dad so around 6inch at what size could I attempt at putting them in my 500l ? Hate to ask daft questions but it seems like iv been growing these ages and either don’t want to stunt them or get them eaten lol

This is how you will keep your hobby going for free. I would buy a couple of 150 liter tanks. Build them if you have to. Get second hand 6mm glass from a glazier( they usually will give it to you as it costs them to dump it ). These fish have a value, most of the time it will be in shop credits but it is still worth your while. They need to get to at least 2 inches to hold their own in the 500 liter and that is assuming your main tank is fully planted. I built all my tanks it is scary to start with but is easy. Explain that there is an income coming from these fish. When I started with fish I was 14, I had to make the hobby support itself, by the time I left high school at 18 I had a fish room with 45 tanks and was breeding and selling a lot of fish. I made enough off fish sales to keep the room going.

Baby fish should be kept in the small tank for a few weeks so they are closer to the food. Once they have grown a bit you can move them into a bigger tank/ container. Emergency fry tanks can be anything from a 20 litre bucket to a 200 litre plastic storage container with a lid.

To grow tropical fish fry quickly,
Keep the water warm (28C).

Feed the babies 3-5 times per day with a food they can eat. Egg yolk or liquid fry food (usually made from egg yolk) is fine for the first 2 weeks, then add newly hatched brineshrimp and microworms. As the fry grow, add crumbled up dry foods, marine meats (fish, prawn, squid) and frozen foods like daphnia and bloodworms.

Do big daily water changes to dilute nutrients, disease organisms and growth inhibiting hormones.
Make sure any new water is free of chlorine/ chloramine before it's added to the tank; and make sure it has a similar chemistry (pH, GH, KH) and temperature to the fry tank.

Yh a really good idea about the glass didn’t even think about asking for scrap glass my works depot is on an industrial estate and I’m sure there is a window conservatory place near by that may have some I can .. pinch lol my partner is ok with fish and loves the babies . But thinks I will take up too much space in the house with tank after tank .. she’s right lol my 500l is heavily planted it’s lightly planted to be honest it has cack loads of hiding places though with wood slate and such it’s set more territory zones for my cichlids , thanks for all the advice I’m having too many babies to ignore I have bronze Cory eggs in with the fry at the moment , probably won’t last but they definitely would even get chance to hatch if I left them and 1 day free swimming electric blue acara in my main tank that I’m going to take half and put with the 20 day old ones see if they get eaten lol

I’m feeding twice a day at minimum I’m hoping my partner is doing the mid day feed while I’m at work as I’m aiming for 3x a day , I’m doing 75% water changes every 48hours , I did try egg yolk but made a mess lol I am keeping it warm as I don’t have a spare thermometer and I find it easier to judge by hand if the water is slightly Warmer

Egg yolk feeding takes practice but is worth the effort ;)

I feed bbs to cherry barb fry. Can’t get much smaller than that. Yolk may be OK for Livebearers but not egg layers. Egg yolk fouls the water and smells bad to fish so many won’t eat it. My fry gobble the shrimp down. You can see their tiny bellies turn pink. So you are incorrect in stating that you will lose a lot of fry. That’s just not so and I have the fry to prove it. To me, and just my opinion. Egg yolk is just nasty to put in water. Anyway, we have disagreed about this before. Op can take their choice. No need to keep arguing again about it. :)
