Help! my 3 day old angelfish egg clutch is now covered with like white mold or fungus! what isi wrong with it? will my eggs still hatch?they are in a filtered tank in the dark. thanks in advance!
IF its white foamy stuff its deffenitly fungus...many eggs get fungus I know my danio eggs certainly did. I tried some fungi remedi but that didn't really kill it off it just stoped the fungus reproducing.
the fungus killed my eggs. THey all broke off and broke. sigh.. and i dun get this either, some ofo them hatched, i had like 10 but the bext day, they all disaperred!
Eggs often go white and get fungus when they have not been fertilised or are sterile to start with. From reading some posts on the breeding forum it's not that uncommon! You said that some eggs (10) hatched but the fry were gone the next day. I think you inadvertently fed your fish during the night!
I had that mold thing happening too........But mine was either eggs and the fish nibbled on them or it was part of an algae wafer that didn't get eaten and was caught under the rocks.
This is a common problem among those of us that breed angel fish. You can use an anti-fungal med like Methyl blue to keep the fungus at bay. I would recommend artificially hatching the next batch. Theres plenty of web sites that will tell you how to do this. Its a bit more involved then what time I have to explain it tonite. Hope you next batch turns out better. HTH
I was hatching the egg batch by myself. they just started to mold and then they dropped from their slate and disinergrated. I am hoping to get another batch out of my pair now. keep your fingers crossed! i was just wondering what i could do to stop it.
Keep a close eye on the eggs, when you first notice any signs of mold remove the infected ones. A turkey batser works great for this. When I see my angels spawning I immediatly add methyl-blue to the tank Ill be hatching the fry in. Never had a fungus problem that way. One way also is to let the parents care for the eggs. They both will pick off the infected eggs.
