Do you turn the light off at night when you have angelfish eggs? I thought you did but im not sure...my angels have become a pair and have made nice little eggs...they are so cute...the mom does most of the work though. ;) Is that normal? Also, how long will it take before you know if the eggs are fertile?

Are those the fish from this post? http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=94976&hl=

If so, lights on or off, the second one of the angels feels the eggs are threatened by the other fish, they will eat the eggs, or kill the other fish.

If you did get a larger tank, and have only the pair in there, they may parent raise the eggs, usually it takes them a few tries to get it right, some pairs never make it to that point.

Usually both of the parents take turns fanning & guarding the eggs, sometimes one or the other will take more of the responsibility of fanning the eggs, the other will patrol the perimeter, keeping other fish away. I have a pair of blacks in a 65 with 5 other angels, when they spawn they chase the other 5 into the far end of the tank until the eggs get pulled. If your pair spawned in the 10 with the neons & rasboras, you are going to have some serious aggression issues.

You should know within 3 days if the eggs are fertile. If they turn white, they are infertile. Sometimes female angels will spawn without a mate, if you didn't see the other fish fertilizing the eggs while the female spawned, this may be the case.

Raising a spawn of angels takes a minimum of 200 gallons of tank space. 300 angels need room to grow, and you need to find some place to sell or give away that many fish. In 12 to 16 weeks I go from hatching out a spawn in a 10 gallon to having the fish spread out between 6 20 gallons & a pair of 55s.

So unless you have someplace to sell them, lots of spare tank space, & time to do nightly maintainance, bbs hatchery, and phone calls, driving & legwork running around trying to sell hundreds of little fish, I would pretend the eggs never happened. I don't raise every spawn, nobody I know of does. I may raise 1 out of 10 spawns. You would need who knows how many gallons to raise every spawn. They will usually spawn again in 7-14 days, so you can pretty much be sure they will spawn in the future giving you a chance to get more gear set up if you want to try breeding angels.

Thanks...I think they are all fertile. They are a clearish color so I'm not sure. How do you get rid of the eggs if you don't want them?Yesterday, The female will not let the male near the eggs, but now she will let the male over their. All of the other fish are smart enough to stay on the other side of the other tank. She does all of the fanning herself. I turned the light off last night and kept the room light on. All of the fish are their, including all of the eggs! I am very happy. I even saw the dad yesterday pick up one of the eggs as it was dropping and put it back...I think I have some good parents! I am going to get a bigger tank VERY soon! I am very happy about this...because now I can get a bigger tank. Sadly, my male is stunted, but I will know better next time I get more angelfish.

Clearish, sort of cream colored eggs are a good thing, if some start turning white, the parents usually pick them off. I have slate, pieces of pvc pipe, & silk plants in with my breeders, if I'm already raising a batch, I just pull what they spawned on & rinse the eggs off in the sink.

Check out http://www.webrbiz.com/angelfish/amh.html and http://www.angelsplus.com/index.htm they are 2 of the best sites for breeding info.

Yeah he means pretty much solid white.

I just had a batch of Angel eggs too and in two days about half turned white, and by four days they were all white and then they were eaten.

Good Luck

okay then...mine are clearish colored so I think they are good so far...they are about 30 hrs old. Also, I have 3 tetras and 2 rasboras and have set up my 5 gallon for them...but I am wondering: if I try to catch the little fish, will the angels get upset and eat the eggs? I think I might leave the little fish in once, and then if they eat a lot, I will move them later before the next spawning.

I think you eggs should be fine and wont be bothered by your Rasboras. What kinda tetras do u have? Still should be fine.

Im also dont think the angels will eat their eggs just because of you trying to catch the rasboras and tetras. U should be just fine leaving them in the tank with the angels. Besieds u dont want to cram all of them into the 5gal.

Your angels will protect the eggs from anythng eating them, mine kept my yo yo botias from eating any eggs.

WHat size tank are the Angels in?
