hi all,

Just finished doing a partial water change on my tank and i just noticed that 1 of my angel fish is swimming very fast in small circles, it also looks as if hes finding it hard to breath.

Does anyone have any ideas why,as i dont know weather to be worried or not :S

cheers, wesley

Has anything gotten into the tank during the water change.
Was the bucket rinsed before water change.

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

yeh i wash everything befor and after everytime i use it.

tank is 125ltr
2 angels
3 danio
2 mollies
2 rams
1 plec

ammonia 0
nitrate 0
nitite 0
ph 7.6

Yesturday he had stopping having control over swimming and was just being cought in the water flow, it looks as if hes having problems breathing aswell.
I tried a little bit of food to see if he made an effort to eat but he didnt even try.

cheers wesley

Just thinking of some more questions that the answers might help shine some light on whats wrong

is the tank planted ?
what are you using to test your water - strips , tablet or liquid tests?
products added recently ?
do you always use dechlorinator during water changes?
how often are the changes and do you gravel vac?

yes the tank is planted
API master test kit
the only new product is API water dechlorinator
Recently just cleared a bacteria bloom so been changing the water 30% every week and gravel vacing every other week

Watching the temp gauge it looked to have only dropped 1degree, i try to match the temp of the new water the best i can

cheers, jase

When the bloom first started i was told to use a treatment called B Clear, i used it once and nothing happend so i didnt use it again, i just carried out several water changes and it slowly went. I used the B Clear treatment at the start of March.

my angel fish did this for a while i tried a fiew things then i treated for swimbladder problems plus i put him in a net now and then and held him bye the air bubbles. if you hava a fish that has developed swimming problems holding it upright helps it focus and get grip. well thats what iv done and it worked.

sadly my angel was found lying in one of the plants this morning, with no movement at all. i fed the tank a little food to see if he would move but nothing.
Ive now noticed that since the angel has left us that the other angel has little to no colour at all. Wierdly the angel now has white spot and doesn't look to good, is this out of stress due to loosing his mate?

Swimming in circles can mean the fish is dying, swim bladder, or internal parasites that have damaged the brain.

What does it look like when the fish goes to the toilet.
Does the fish look bloated.
Can the fish maintain its balance in the water.
What do you feed your fish.

Being pale can be stress, desease.

well my fish that are swimming in circle are pooping fine and no pale colour.. its really frustrating and for them

i found one of my angels dying a month or so ago it was upright at the bottom. its mate went off with another angel and it got so depressed i tryed to help but it died..i was upset when eva i looked in the tank

Can the fish maintain there balance and do they look bloated.
Been using any chemicals near the tank.

hey only the API dechlorinater is the new thing ive used, i change between flakes and frozen bloodworn, they do get slightly bloated after feeding but goes awat after time.

The angel fish's colour changes so fast, one min he could be really pale next hes full of colour, do u think this is due to lonlyness after hes just lost his mate??
