well anyways, i have two angel fish. yes i am aware that they can get as big as ur palm, that's why i'm buying a 45 or 55 gallon tank when that time comes. so, they r still pretty much babies. they r only as long as my thumb, which is about 2 inches long. so, what i want to know is, what gender they r. if u have to sex them different if they r different species of angel, tell me so. i have an gold veil angel, and a koi angel.

Hi there,

IME they are monomorphic (males and females both look the same) and probably the only way to confirm you have a true pair will be when you have fry in the tank!!!

Females may appear fatter if you look at them face on, but this is not reliable.

They are both the same species of angel (Pterophyllum scalare), just different colour morphs.

wadya mean by morphs?

off topic: i am making a fish website, coding it compeletely from scratch. when it's up, i hope u visit it.

There is no way to tell gender until/if they start to spawn. There mating tubes will protrude and it's located under their belly. The female tube is slightly longer than the males. I've found that males tend to fight more especially if they're fighting over a female.

edit: if you have a pair you probably wont get fry right away. They will lay eggs on a flat surface that is noticeable and will protect it aggressively. My angels have layed eggs on plants leaves, rocks and even on the side of the tank though that was an unsuccessful venture.
