Well the angelfish/rosey barb/golden algae eater are gone now. I spoke to a guy at a new fish shop. He said he to take the fish i cant have in the tank to the shop and i can swap them for something smaller and more suitable :D now what should i put in my tank?

Just to add.... the fish i had in the tank where there as i thought they would be ok together, obviously i was wrong. It was NOT intentional, as some people seem to have forgotten i am NEW to this and cannot not be expected to be in the advanced stages of fish keeping ( i do however totally respect those who are! :) ) . I do care about my fish and for that exact reason i am removing them (having throughly learnt my lesson!) Thank you to those who have given me useful advise and encouraged me not to just give up :)

I can't remember what tank size you had but I seem to remember that it was small. What size is it? After you return those, will that leave you any fish at all?

Hi in a 5-6 gallon tank you could keep:

1 - a male betta on its own
2- guppies and some algae shrimp or pygmy cories, i have an 8 gallon and in it a keep 4 male guppies 4 male swordtails and 5 algae shrimps.
3- A couple of livebearer platys or mollys.

Just a suggestion dont know very much about stocking levels in fish tanks. HTH :D

Unfortunately, a 5-6 gallon tank isn't suitable for much more than a male betta or maybe 3 small corys. Even that doesn't leave corys much room to swim.

A 5-6 gallon does not really leave enough swimming room for swordtails, they need more space to stretch their fins. Mollies again get too large. Guppies might work, but ideally they should have a bit more room to explore.

I'd go with rdd's suggestion of a betta instead.

Killifish or american flag fish or paradise fish (pair of killis, one of everything else) or a bunch of shrimp or a couple of snails or a male betta or a school of mosquitofish.

That tank really is small. Its not suitable for a whole lot.

I'd go for guppies I think - they'll look pretty with that foil background and be able to hold their own againt the neon gravel :D

Personally I'd go all male (you have no room for baby guppies and the females are not so pretty anyway) mixed colours. Depending on filtration, and size (some strains seem smaller than others!) 5-10 would fit in that tank IMO.

Other than that I might try a small school (6) of a hardier strain of tetras - I'll leave someone else to suggest which strain though, as I have neons which to be honest are not the easiest keepers...

Don't get worried by the fact you got it wrong first time, most people do - I tried mixing goldfish with my tropicals a long time ago :S

I would love to have some american flag fish. My son bought a pair and offered them to me but I didn't have room for them at the time. He put them in his 20 gallon. I wish I had them now. They are really pretty fish. They do like plants though. They pretty much keep his anacharis eaten down to nothing but stems.
