I have been given free run to look after/stock a 10ft long tank...

So introduced some juvenile angels into it today, just 6. What do you keep with yours?

Any ideas welcome :)

Larger shoalers but make sure they're not at all nippy; I had Congo tetras in with mine and they gradually shortened his dorsal fin, even though there are 14 of them, and I had to separate them in the end.

Mine is currently in with green neons, marbled hatchets and a BN. Neons I'll admit can be a risk, as they are part of the angel's diet in the wild, but my angel is a bit of an inbred freak (black marble veil tailed) and has never grown to a 'proper' angel size. He does chase the hatchets a little bit, but they're too fast for him to get near.

Cories and dwarf cichlids would be nice, or even larger, peaceful, more bottom dwelling cichlids, like keyholes, seeing as you have a lot of space to play with!

I was thinking about tetras, i'm sure if their added while young under 5cm or so, the fish will grow up thinking the tetras are too large to eat if they have been with them from the start?

i have also added 2 trios of nanacara... i was going to go for a bolivain rams but the nanacara got my vote. I was looking at geophagous species as they are beautiful fish, but i do not own the tank and dont have alot of time to watch for conflictions, so didnt fancy getting "large" cichlids. I have not had enough experience for them too.

It could be worth a try; it works for some people, that's for sure. I suppose it depends on; the individual characters of the angels, and how upset the owner of the tank will be if the smaller fish start disappearing!

Aslong as they arent floating around dead... they would not even notice to be fair. I will see what happens and takes my fancy in the coming weeks when i go to get the fish.

Its like when i went to get some danios for my tank... walked out the shop with a twin tail betta... dont know how that happened. But love my bettas now :)

I have mine in with krobia xingu, keyholes, a pearl gourami (no problems so far), corys, bn pleco, and a golden panchax. The panchax is possible the only problem in the tank- he seems to like to nip dorsal fins every once in a while. He will be seperated to a different tank once I move to a bigger place in about a months time.

Mine were babies when I introduced them to my tank which had neons already, and once the angels grew (and they grow quick) all the neons became lunch. So the whole 'grow up with them, don't see them as food' definitely didn't work in my case. My recommendation is go for bigger, broad bodied tetras or barbs for a schooling fish if thats what you want.

In with mine in a 450 litre are severums, blue acara, kribensis, blue ram (being rehomed soon, tank is a bit boisterous for her), Black skirt tetras, Odessa barbs (beautiful, non-nippy barb that doesnt get too big),corydoras, bristlenose, kuhli loaches and clown loaches. My black angel picks a fight with the acara and the severum on occasion but its generally just a whole lot of flaring and shaking at each other, with no actual damage eber done to anybody.

I see :) people recomend cardinals but... neons are marginally smaller than cardinals, cardinals are more expensive... and i think if they eat neons, they will eat the cardinals. I fancy gold barbs, but they prefer a little cooler water temp. I quite like the black phantom tetra ut thought the angels might see them as other angels... so not mix. Also been thinking of a school of dawrf blue rainbows.. they may go well?

I don't see why phantom tetras would be a problem. I think they are a lovely fish, they are similar in appearance to black widows (I tossed up between the two actually) and they are fine with my angels. Remember, your angels will grow very big, quite quickly, I don't see how they would be mistaken for other angels. I haven't even had mine a year yet, they were coin sized when I got them and now they are easily from my wrist to the ends of my fingers in height.

Havent had any experience of rainbows so can't help there.

Hahaha, they are the exact two i was thinking between too! Just with the high fins, broad body i thought the angels might have had a go at them... but sounds good. A little look into them in the next few weeks i think :)

i need something for the bottom, but the substrate is gravel. so cant really change it :/ 15 or so corys would be ideal if it was not for the gravel.

I keep my angel with guppys.. the angel only seems to be a problem for the fries..

Thats interesting! suppose it depends how lucky you are with the individual fish. My guppys even eat their own fry, never mind the angels.

How big are your angels by the way?

this is a recent dewelopment.. My wife wanted angels originally, but I wanted guppys.. so we got a guppy colony going because I'm the one who takes care of the tanks.. this past weekend she said she wanted angels, right now I only has one in a 37 gallon.. sticking with that for now..

I keep my 2 angelfish with 5 rainbowfish, 6 cory cats, 1 BN pleco, and 7 Nerite Snails. So far everyone is getting along very well.

I have 1 Angel (Super veil tail  ) who lives with albino and pepper corys, neons (has never eaten them), two male guppies who are getting rehomed and one lonesome female betta. I did have a sorority but a recently lost a lot of fish to a bacterial infection (long story).

Only problem I've ever had was the female bettas picking on the angel. He has ridiculously long fins and they used to nip at them when he wasn't looking. No damage was ever done though. He also did chase a dwarf gourami once he got to the size he is.
