Just wondering if someone can help me here.

I got two angel fish with the tank I brought a while back now, they we're quite small when I had them and now they are rather big (fully grown maybe?).

I've noticed since yesterday they will go face to face and kinda flick and jolt towards each other. It's not constant just now and then. I have noticed it happen three times today now. And on one of those occasions they we're both kinda 'locked together' by each others mouths?!

Is this them showing each other whos boss etc, should I think about re-homing one of them or?

Any advice is helpful :)

Thanks!

Sounds like two males or mating behaviour. Just keep an eye on them and if it gets worse id seperate them. Angels are hard to sex but if you could get a pic i'll try. Also a fully grown angel should be about 8" tall unless its an altum which can reach over 12" in height

I have had this before, I have never seen either of my mated pairs doing this, but I have seen 2 males lip locking. My 2 females even did it a bit but with what seemed very little agression.

I cant get any decent pictures as the only camera I have is an iPhone :(. This is the best I can get:

The one whos doing it:

The one whos taking it (but giving it back a little):

They are always together, but last few days the yellow one keeps staying at the bottom / back of the tank near the filter box. The black/silver one is always up the front of the glass in the top corner

Edit: sorry confused lol. They are ALWYAS together side by side but when they do this shaking at each other buisness the yellow one will then go to the filter at the bottom / back of the tank then the black/silver one will stay at the front of the tank...

If they lock mouths and kinda twist, this is the female testing the male to see if he is man enough to be her mate.
You could have a mating pair :good:

I've only seen them lock lips the once. The black/silver one started it and looked as if they we're 'floating' around while doing it lol. Sorry hard to explain. Looked like they were being soft with each other . Just looked weird, never seen them do it before

Definately pairing behaviour. If it wasnt they would be chasing one another off not swimming side by side. You would get some interesting young with those pair. If you successfully mate them il definately be interest in some!

The gold looks like a male, but if the gold one is the submissive then the other must be a male too. So i would say two males. Keep them together for a while longer and keep an eye on them. As i said sexing angels is hard so i could be wrong. They also have a good bit more growing to do :)

I had them with the tank I brought several months ago now. Not sure how long he had them for but I've had them for a good few months now they was a lot smaller than that when I got them. They have been together since very young. Haven't ever had a problem or seen this behavior until a few days ago. Would be amazing if they was pairing! We can only wish lol ;-)

Thanks for the comments guys!

With great difficulty

Angels are very hard to sex without seeing there breeding tubes. I have kept angels for 10+ yrs and i can tell by the head. Its not always right but most of the time it is

Been watching them today and it's getting stranger!

The black/silver one will only chase the yellow one BACK to the filter (back corner of the tank) when it comes out to the front.

If another fish goes near the yellow angel at the back corner of the tank the silver/black one will chase them off , he has NEVER chased fish off or round the tank before.

What's going on in there?!!?
