Same, I worry that this could happen too, not sure the neighbours below me would be very happy, I've got 240 litres, but still enough to cause a mess.

Sorry to hear about all those poor fish though, id die.

I had my fair share of leaking tanks throughout the years. Every time, I was shocked when it happened. But I can't imagine how it must feel to have one million liters coming down on the floor... And what a waste of those fish lives that got lost...
If someone would've stand next to the tank, he/she must have been blown away from the hotel. The power of such a water break must be enormous if you look at the height of that tank.

Apparently it happened in the early hours of the morning, if it had been later with people and traffic around.......

A lot of the fish died from being frozen, and one theory is that it was a temp of -6 deg C which caused the tank to crack.

I always wondered how lightly or heavily stocked these large aquariums were. The answer is 1.5 fish per 1 cubic metre of water for this aquarium.

Im not even gonna read this thread.

I discovered mine was leaking at 18:30 on Xmas eve last year.
All the pre Xmas tasks were complete and I was midway through a phone call to my mam 260 miles away when the tank light timer clicked into action behind me. There was approx 4” of water left in a 20” high tank……….panic.
All residents were saved thankfully but it was 22:00 before we got to sit down.
Get yerselves an emergency tank as theres no guarantee you can pop down to the local lfs the next morning if it happens to you.

I was going to get a 264,000 gallon tank like that for my cardinals, at the next dollar a gallon sale. But this event is causing second thoughts.

I watched a 77 gallon split once, down the side seam. The cross bar at the top had broken first. It came out in sheets, straight to a drain on the concrete garage floor. There was enough water left in it that I was able to save the fish.

That was my fault - big old tanks with broken euro braces should stand empty.

Large plastic totes will work in an emergency, as well...learned this when my 10G seals failed, and it leaked
