hi all

ive had a male for about 4 months and i got a female 2 days ago

they are 2 different types will thay breed??

wat size do they have to be to breed??

wats a good set up for them to breed??

and wat should i breed them to help breeding??

sry for all the questions

thanx alot

what type of bristles are they
I wouldn't have thought it'd be a problem - but if it were me, I'd prefer to be able to pass on a known species.

all we did was set up a tank for ours and add the male and female... once they were about 2.5 - 3" they started breeding without any other intervention from us... they have been at it ever since - every 4-5 weeks :)

You'll want to put some tubes in the tank (ours are 35mm) and close one end - the male will then have a safe place to raise the eggs / fry.

the females a Ancistrus claro

i think the male is an ancistrus sp rio chirgua

but im not 100% on the male

i will try and get a couple pics of my male an female

but if it is them 2 will they breed??

thanx

looking at the pictures of both - i think you have common bristle noses...
The colour and patturns vary greatly and depend on their surroundsing and mood

In which case it is quite likely they will breed.

ok thanx alot smithrc

wat should the tank set up be like for them to breed??

Have a look on my site (link in sig).

Tank 2 is the bristle nose breeding tank.

Feeding them a varied diet and quite a lot of it is key.
We fee cucumber every few days interspersed with wafers and the occasional bloodworm.

If there is'nt enough food they will be more reluctany to breed.

our tank is actually a little colder tham some on here at 26ºC but it works for us

will it be ok for them to breed in the comunity tank?

or should i move them to a smaller tank??

thanx

The only think that might be a problem is the eggs or fry getting eaten.

Oh and make sure you've got good filtration

i was thinkin it would prob be better to breed them in a smaller tank because in the big tank they hardly see each other

i have a 5 gallon would that be ok for the breeding??

also if it is how high should water level be??

thanx alot

nope - you'll have 2 3" plecs in it!
and they 40+ little poop machines.

Our 2ft 15us gal is barely big enough (it isnt really but we stay on top of water changes and filter de-cloggs)

Try in the community tank - put long tubes (8" would be ok) to make sure the male can protect the eggs and fry until they are released.

i have a large flower pot that ive tipped onto its side will that be ok for them to breed in??

so ill just leave them in the big tank then

thanx

ok thanx alot

just one more question would it be good to lower the water level a bit or not??

thanx
