Ancient Fish

Some of you are just downright pessimistic and hypocritical.

???? How so?

The people who are complaining about how humans have yet to destroy this part of the planet, or as if the guy intentionally snagged this fish and blaming him for its death. Everyone here keeps fish and whether we like it not, the fact we keep fish means we've contributed in some way to that impact, directly or indirectly.

It's pessimistic and sad that people assume we've destroyed the planet somehow. In the past, there has been a 99% extinction rate and life bounced back so I really don't think what we're doing is going to kill the planet. It might kill us off in the long run, but that's life. It'll go on with or without us.

Ok I completely see where you are coming form, but me personalyl try to get as many captive bred as i can and al ltha. Heck even my reptiels are form captive bred specimens. I try to avoid wild if I can. That's why I aghree with the statement.

I agree its nto the fishermans fault, but its kind of good that wwe cant go down that deep. If we id, would we over fish tha tarea as well? Take out loads of fish for our enjoyment as we do now in shallower waters. That would concern me too.

Again, I see exactly where you are coming form :good:

I have a bad feeling this thread could turn nasty...
Imagine the other ancient fish yet to be discovered....in a way you kind of hope they never are discovered and remain untouched...

I'm not going to turn the thread nasty but would prefer people not be so negative and quick to judge in the future. The fisherman was just trying to catch fish, presumably to eat so he can live or make a living. He wasn't out to intentionally harm a potentially endangered species.

Oh I wasn't stating you would turn the thread nasty just a few posts have opinions which could start arguements...not sure why though

1) colecanths aren't actually *that* rare of a catch and oohfeeshy wasn't completely joking--they're considered good eating.

2) i'm going to point out that fishkeeping is an inherently non-ecofriendly hobby. even if you completely avoid any wild-collected plants, fish or decor, it still wastes a considerable amount of energy each day. who here has a tank with no light, no filter and no heater? ok, maybe the betta keepers :p but too many of us spend money to keep our house at 65 degrees and our tank at 80 >.<
