A lot of people post about goldfish and water quality - they need over filtration, loads of gravel vacs etc. Are my goldies freaks?
I have 1 large (9 yr old) common, 1 small (4 inch) common, one medium (2yr old) common, a 3 inch orlanda and a 5 inch common pleco.
They live in a Juwel Rio 180. I know this tank isn't big enough... I'm expecting some money soon and a bigger tank is first on the spending list.
The tank is filtered just with the standard Juwel filter. It is kept at room temperature. I have three very big anubias type plants growing in it. I do a 35% water change and rinse the filter sponges once a week. I hardly ever vacuum the gravel (probably once every 4 months or so). I feed the fish a huge pinch of flakes twice a day (they do eat it all).
The water quality in my goldfish tank is better than my tropical tanks. very strange... my goldies are fat little things and poo a lot. Could the plants be eating it all up?
