Well Buster was being a putz in the spawn tank, even after a week + of conditioning he just didn't even seem to care, he barely looked at the female let alone express any interest in her. But shes eggy as can be so I thought now would be a good time to try an interesting experiment.

So heres the pair I'm going to try crossing, it'll be interesting to see what I get

So I'm going to be crossing a pink/purple ct with a turquoise masked HMPK wonder what I'll get, lol

could be interesting, but usualy your recomended to stick to pairing same colours together. could get a mixed bag

yes but if everyone stuck to what was recommended then we'd never have anything new in the world! :hey:

Very interesting combination! I like it. The offspring may turn out to be black, violet, red, and steel blue or green.

true.. but i would rekon given the number of beta breeders around, almost every possible colour/tail type combo will have been tried out.
if memory serves me correct.. a pk X ct will produce combtail PKs but im not sure on colour. i had a ct similar to yours and i asked what would be the outcome if i paired him to a blue and was told im best to stick to the cambodian girl i also had, as the colours clash and it would produce a bad mix of colours.

but all the best anyway, could be interesting. i paired a marblle green vt with a wild type/colour pk and got some interesting fish. i got a black with metalic blue lace male right thru to a female almost completely white with a tiny bit of marbling

go for it, agree with you jaded :good: but you will more than likely get combtail pk versions of the father as the females green is a mutation of blue which the father carries and she also has slight mustard to her at the top of her anal and base of tail which is a mutation of red which he also has but defo worth the try as we never know what we end up with , my spawns are proving this as i go along

see i keep getting told stick with the bloomin same colours but im dieng to try my black orchid Combetail with my red Crown tail ;)
see what we gets :)

do it, the main colours of the black orchid genetic structure should be the black and the steel, you will prob get a complete mixture of splashes of the 3 colours in some of the fry, steel and the red being most dominent but the black with come thru on some so no fear
there.
some people say use the same colours but tbh this shouldnt be stated as:
1, most people dont know the genetic history of the fish
2, some people are impatient and just want fry to sell on and make money so they require the same colour matches which will lead to less work
3, some cant be bothered to wait up to 3 generations to get what would be considered as unusual colouration and patterns
4, some have just heard it on the grape vine and eventually stuff like this turns into old wives tales (sorry old wives  no offence meant) and dont really have the first hand experience of what comes from mixing genetics.

The betta world needs a variety of colours and strains to keep it alive as it is at the moment and how do people think the best bettas come from.............dropped out of the sky by fairies maybe??????? its all down to hard work and patience

good luck, sorry for hyjacking the thread slightly
