Seffies 'Sunday fish tank maintenance' topic has given me an idea!

Why not create a pinned topic called the 'members diary' and somehow have a 7 day planner in which people can leave a post on each day on what they have done to their tanks regarding routine maintenance/cleaning/problems etc with a few pics thrown in.

It would give newbies an idea on whats involved in terms of weekly maintenance but on a daily basis.

They could follow one particular member over a weekly basis or many and then compare between them to help them create their own weekly/monthly maintenance routine.

It would be like a mini weekly journel, but dedicated to the maintenance side of things.

Just a thought anyway!

Anyone else wanna jump in and back me up or tell me to shut the hell up! lol!

Getting constant input on a daily basis might be difficult to keep going and keep track of if everyone is in the same thread, unless I'm not understanding what you're proposing. It might be easiest to ask people to write down everything they do to their tanks for one week and then post up a summary (larger tanks needing a few weeks to capture everything of course).

Mmmmmm, its a really interesting idea, many of us come on every day but however Donya has made a good point ( I have missed a few days due to, well just being plan kn*ckered!) How do you see it working, tell us the nuts and bolts and lets give it a try, we have nothing to lose

Hi Seffie. I'm trying to work it out how to do it but to be honest i cant see it working with the current stucture of the forum.

Days will be spread across the topic, meaning people following one particular diary will have to search the entire post [if it gets crammed] to find a particular day.

If I had to do that, I could'nt be bothered and thats how other people will feel.

Might just scrap the idea if I can't come up with a solution.

Ahh, but there is a solution, each member keeping a maintance log can just edit their own post each time they add an entry

So, if I was to do a log, say over a month:

Title: Seffie's 400 litre low tech tank without sump
How long has tank been established: 2 years
Hardware: Skimmer, reactor, two powerheads
Week one: Had to add 25 litres of water today due to evaporation. Daily mag wipe. Monthly change of phosban in reactor. cleaned powerheads of loads of crud!

and/ or maybe newer salts will show their test results daily

anyways, you have a think and see what you come up..............

How long has tank been established: Just since Woody cured it of terminal algae failure
Hardware: Mostly rock
Week one: Stared at rock, wiped glass so could see rock clearer, rotated rock, took photos of rock, tested rock for rockiness, did a 20% rock change and topped up with 2 kilo's of Live Rock.

I like your idea but will have to do a rule list at the beginning to get people to edit there own posts and not re post.
Or they can keep adding new posts from their own topic in a pinned section if poss and at the beginning of each members topic title they must have the word 'DIARY' followed by the members name so its easier to flick through different peoples diary's.

Similar to journels.

I think we need a 'mod' on here to give an opinion.
