An Hour After Buying A Tank, I Have Babies...

I keep a pleco in my fry tank and have never had a problem...could be dependent on the individual fish I suppose.

I know one thing, If i kept small fry in my 30g, and one sat on the ground, my Bristlenosed pleco's would swim over, and snatch him up( or atleast try).

Even if a fish were so inclined, it would have to be really fast to catch the fry.

depends how much you feed the pleco he might get hungry!!

not always just think of a pangasius it would catch fry coz its like zoom!!! LOL

I do not feed my pleco, I allow the algae to grow pretty thick in my fry tank to feed the fry and the plec. I was speaking specifically of plecos...no, fry wouldn't stand a chance against something like a Pangasius. Plecos don't have mouths on the front of their faces though so unless the fry were laying on the bottom (not terribly common unless the fry is unwell) the plec would have a hard time catching it. Like I said, it could be down to the individual fish. A young plec is much more likely to be able to catch and eat fry but I would worry more about the parents eating them than most plecostomus. Out of curiosity, what kind of plec did you have?

Well, on a positive note, absolute commendations on taking the goldfish back, it is fantastic to see that you are listening to the advice we are giving you :) :good: I'm just so sorry you have had a bumpy intro to the hobby :( But trust me, when you get past the initial hurdle, it becomes a fascinating and wonder full thing! Just keep researching!!! :good: :good: :good:

Thanks!

There is a wealth of knowlage to be found here I am sure.
I am soaking it up like a spunge.

Well, I did a 50 percent water change today. Went and bought spring water that way I didn't use tap water.

I am going to do another 50 percent on Friday.

Hoping I can fix all this mess I made.

Great job. You are doing great for all the advice we have thrown on you! :D

Like i said the very first post here. The shop is also at fault here, they should of explained about cycling and not sold incomparable fish.
You should quiz them when they test your water and see what response they give.

If you don't get a good answer then i would find my self a better place to get fish.

Also the only reason i though u had not cycled the tank also in the very first post is coz of your title here.

"An hour after buying a tank, I have babies" this dose not sound like u left the tank for a week.

Also getting to the pleco's now.
Pleco's have been known to actively hunt fry.
I had a bristlenose that used to sit in the front corner of the tank all day. I had noticed fry was going but was never sure and did not think of the pleco at the time, then as i was watching them one day a fry swam over in to the corner, next of the pleco and it pounced onto it!!!

It's not a case if they have enough food or not, it more a case if they lurn to hunt. Fry must taste better than algae!

Yeah, we only have one dry left, the only things in the tank are two plecos, four mollies and four domilos (sp?). So either the mollies or the plecos are eating them.

As to the title, I should have put "an hour after buying fish..."

Well I noticed a Molly stuck on the filter intake today so I bumped her off and she was swimming around what seemed like fine.
A few minutes later I saw the other mollies biting at her, then she was just laying at the bottom bleeding.
I put her in a bag with water in it and floated it in the tank.

Anyone know why the other fish were nibbling on her before she was dead?

Hope this comes out okay, I am posting with my blackberry.
