Sorry if this has been asked before, but I have to little rescue boys who are now both settled and building bubble nests.
However, one of them will not eat his pea. I feed them some once a week, and while one gobbles his down the other one just turns away, is there anything else that I can try him with? Considering he came from an awful shop who didn't even know they had to have special food, or meaty foods he has become very fussy with his eating, it took me ages to get him to eat Betta flake food.

Well a pea is usually given to get rid of bloat so its not part of a required diet yet it really cant hurt. As an alternitive someone recomended using epson salts (spelling) for this as the fish then has no choice but to take it in.

Sorry i couldn't help more

No thank you for your help. He isn't bloated at all. So maybe I won't worry to much about getting him to eat it. I'll just keep his diet varied. I will look up those salts they may be of help in the future. My other guys loves pea so I will keep giving it to him if it doesn't hurt. Are they all your Bettas? They are truly stunning. :drool:Sorry I don't quite know how I did that - I'm not very good on these boards yet!

you'll get the hang of it, i'm still fairly new myself. No i have more boys than that but i ran out of room lol i might play with it a bit so i can fit them all on. Thank you for the comments. Do you have any pics of your guys?

Wow, I wish my husband would let me have that many! They are all so gorgeous and exotic looking. Do you breed them?
I don't have any pictures yet, but I will try and get some. My two are just normal V Tails, one is deep red and the other is pale pink, with purples and light blues mixed in - he is a strange mix of pale colours but the purple in his tail is quite vivid and shiny. They are lovely to me  but both are very different in colour and temprement.

i love all bettas VT's included i have a blue/green one called Rocket. Yes i am getting into breeding them i have 2 spawns at nearly 3 weeks old and 3 tanks with bettas in ready to spawn. Its a rewarding hobby to have and i too find that each one is different, you just gotta love um for it

If your betta does get bloated, don't feed it for a day or two. It'll clear it's gastrointestinal tract on its own. I had a pea kill my male so you have to be careful.

And if you want to avoid your fishy from being bloated, get micro-pellets.

Oh wow, all those little baby ones - I would want to keep them all though. They are all so individual. I love the name Rocket. Mine are Chuckie Norris - not very original but I altered it slightly to suit him, and the other one is Mouse, as he is really timid.

Pea killed your fish - that is really scary, thank you so much for telling me. I think I will just do as you say and if they look bloated I will starve them for a couple of days. That is so upsetting to hear, I am sorry for your loss.
What are the Betta pellets - all I have seen is the red tetra flake, should I change using this? Once again thank you so much for warning me.

It's not really starving to be honest, its more like "fasting" since their little fishie bodies have enough fishy fat to keep them going for quite a bit of time (depending on the hardiness of the fish). Usually a day clears them right up.

And to avoid your fishies from getting bloated, look for the mini betta food pellets. I use "Aqua Culture's Micro-pellet betta food" smaller pellets are easier on their G.I.

As for peas killing bettas, I've only seen problems with my own if the piece of pea is not cut up small enough to eat. They choke if it isn't.

Also, I once read of a certain Bluebell who stole algae wafers from catfish. Still, don't overfeed them, that can cause constipation, bloating, and in the middle of the night when your stomach is killing you, there will be no more pepto bismo.
