Any chance of putting together another forum or changing one of the current ones to advanced topics, i.e. care/husbandery of reef fish, threads for discussion about specific coral types etc, Marine specific DIY projects/mods/builds etc.

I'm pretty new to this forum and i've been trying to wade through all the "Help i'm a nemo noob!" threads in search of something interesting to read, but so far i haven't found anything. :(

Cheers

hmm, I think the best way to go about this is to either ask the mods (PM them, the ones with the blue name in case you don't know), or put a thread in board suggestions at the bottom :good:

Annoying, isn't it?

An advanced saltwater forum would be a refreshing change. I would post it in the "Board announcements or Suggestions" forum, or Personal Messaging William, who is the administrator. He could make a new forum very easily (I know how it's done, I own a forum, too) but it's the consequences you have to think about. The more spread out this board gets, the less replies any single thread will get.

The cynic in me thinks it will turn into a place for people to ask the experts how they can fit 37 nemos into a 10 gallon tank, then when they are told it can't be done do it anyways.

LOL, i get a vibe you are a very cynical person ;)

I see what you mean about diluting the forum, that why i also suggested taking over another one

I may sound like a geek, but i like to talk about zooanthellae, PAR, iridophores and palytoxin more than why someones lionfish has eaten their goby

Ohh cycnicism is contagious init?
:good:

Start the threads, if I'm around I'll contribute, I'm not sure if we have enought knowledge here any more to do such things, or if we ever really did.

Although I'm not a cynic by any means, start the threads, I love talking about PAR values and zooxanthellae too. I'll geek it up with ya

Comming here to see the same questions over and over again does get very tiring. But, the thought of an "Advanced Salt Water discussion" forum has crossed my mind, but there just wouldnt be enough discussion, even with Ski "geeking it up" :D .

maybe a better way to go about it would be as the tropical has been done, a beginners section for the nemo noobs (like me :p ) away from the marine chit chat.

personally though I'm not sure if there's enough activity in the marine forums to warrant it.

IMO - due to the small size of teh community that we have I think adding any more forums would be a bad idea, dont see the problem posting in Chit Chat

Very true Miagi, as much as I enjoy helping Newbies there is a limit as to how many time you can type out why nems shouldnt be kept in 2g jars

In the end it is the lack of reading from the newer members that really does the vhit chat section in. If only everyone read all the pinned topics to answer the questions of how many nemos can I squeeze in my 10 gal, or what are the names of the finding nemo fish I want to set the same tank up. An advanced section would be nice but I fear the small number of "experts" on this site compared with the "beginners" would end up turning the advanced section into the same as the chit chat. Either that or I fear the mods would constantly be moving threads out of the advanced section.

I frequent the saltwater forums here irregularly because of large amount of noobie questions. It's not that I think I am above noobie questions or that I look down on noobies. It's just that after a while you get a little tired of answering the same questions over and over again because people don't want to use the search function. If there was an advanced topic forum I would definitely frequent this forum more often and be glad to put in my two cents on advanced topic answers.
