August 21 will be the time when we can get a new kitten. I want to get one that is older than a baby, and I found a place that shows all the kittens avaliable in my state. They all have names though, and if we got a 3 month old cat, would we have to keep the names for the cats, even if they are stupid names like Blue Cheese, which I think is the name ofg one of the cats at the place.

You should be able to change it's name without much problem. I know with dogs they say if it's had the name for a while then combine the names, like call the kitty Blue Cheese Angel, and then after a while just drop the old part and go to just the new one, Angel - or whatever. Chances are the kitty hasn't had the name too long anyway.

No probs at all - you can definitely rename and before long the animal will respond to the new name :)

Good luck this time :D

My cats don't respond to anything except the sound of a tin opening..... I changed the name of my 2 year old adoptee from 'Olive' to 'Missy' and she ignores either quite happily! If I want to get them in from outside I stand on the doorstep and shout 'Here kitty, kitty, kitties' and shake a bowl with cats biscuits in. Works a treat.....sometimes even the neighbours' cats come in as well!!!!!

heh, most people just call their cats "Cat" anyways... even if its got an official Name. :p (at least that's what i'm guilty of)

aww, the poor cat, no respect!

They have some cutecats now, two sets of sisters, which are adorable, but its still to soon to get one. Hopefully they will have some cute ones in August as well.

my Thomas was around 4yrs old when we rescued him, his name was Jerramy.
he only took a week or two to start to respond to his new name.

Cats often ignore their names. A friend had a kitten named "Sarah". Then she found out her husband was cheating on her with a woman named Sarah. To rename her kitten, she just changed the name on the veterinary records--those were the only people who really cared, and the cat couldn't have cared less about what she was called.

My cats respond more to the tone of voice I use than their names anyway (one of which is Amber) so I think you'll be fine :D

My dog comes when we call the cat. Heaven forbid she should be getting some attention

I have a cockatoo whos name is Rufus (female)....she lived at a house where there was a dog called Roy. She started screechingthe name Roy to my old dog (whos name was really Jessie) and eventually we could yell out Roy and the dog would come.

LOL. I know that my cat Molly comes when we call her mom, but I thought that was just because she isnt all that smart.

I have five cats, and they ignore the names of each other, but they ALL respond and come to their own name. :dunno:

We got a cat that was about 1 year old we think. Her name was Sasha. My hubby had a cat named Sasha so he had a really hard time calling her that. I kept calling her Libby by accident cause she looked so much like my aunt's cat Libby. Eventually the name stuck. She started responding to her new name with in a week.

My cats know there names too. They will ignore me unless I call their name, or like SarahBravo said, open a can or shake some food.

Good luck on finding the perfect cat. Let us know when you do, I want to see lots of pictures.
