Hey guys...

I filled my tank up on saturday last week... put in plants and rocks and a small piece of bogwood on sunday...
I have checked the ammonia everday and it has stayed around 0.3 most days...
Hasnt really dropped lower than that.

It is hard to read the tests accurately...

i have just cleaned the filter out and ill run a test later...
i also did a 10% water change roughly..

should the test get better...???

what test kit are you using?

are you adding ammonia for a fishless cycle?

im using the aquaone test kit...

and no im not adding ammonia for a fishless cycle....

what sort of test is it, tablets, liquid or strips?

liquid ones are by far the best, i like the API one's, they're fairly accurate. no test kit is 100% then.

so you've no fish in at the moment, you've just set the tank up and are leaving it running yeah? are you planning to cycle with fish then?

I would definately advise to do a fishless cycle, it's an easier way. Otherwise you are causing not only stress to the fish but stress to yourself in testing the water daily and doing water changes daily to make sure the fish stays alive.

I didn't do a fishless and lost my fish not through the cycle but after my tank had cycled and I think it was due to the stress I had put on the poor little things. I speak from experience... not a lot mind...but just enough. :(

There is a good posting on how to do a fishless cycle on the forum and would definately recommend you take a look. :)

Best of luck

By the way Miss Wiggles right the API test kit is a good one. :)
