Ammonia In Tap Water

Converting Ammonia to it's less toxic form means that it will still show up on tests, and should still be accessible by the filter bacteria.

*Edit* Ammonium (NH4+) is actually what fish secrete, not Ammonia (NH3), but when NH4+ contacts water some or all will be converted to NH3 depending on the tanks pH.
A product that would hinder cycling would be the use of Zeolite filters, which remove NH3 and NH4+ from the water, thus making in unaccessible for filter bacteria.

Trust me, everyone gets frustrated with fish-in cycling, because it is a LOT of work...but it's like housebreaking a puppy, it's messy and annoying to deal with, but when it's done the rewards are huge.

fish0in cycling is just a case of lots and lots of water changes, all that's different is that your goals for water quality are a bit different.

whereas most people aim to do water changes to bring ammonia and nitrite down to 0 each day, the best you can hope for is 0.25ppm ammonia and 0 nitrite......

so just do as many big water changes as you can to bring your levels down to there each day. it'll take hard work and a lot of patience but you just have to stick with it.
