ive researched these a few months ago, and generally they are accepted as working, but if i remember correctly, they work best in extremes, or they react really slow to changes in the water or something, but they do work.

im not going to buy one, but it wouldnt hurt to have one in the tank imo

It reacts quickly if free ammonia rises but takes a few hours to show a drop.

cheers guys...i will look on ebay next time. hadn't realised how little was left in my nutrafin kit so had to get a new kit in a hurry!!! only option on the day was the delightful (!) 'pets at home!!!'

I got and trashed 2 dud API Ammonia test kits...

That's unusual. API usually has good products .
