i put ammo chips in my filter and it REALLY lowers ammonia to 0 so if theres no ammonia then theres no nitrites and no nitrites means no nitrate it keeps my tank clear and everyone happy what do you guys think and what aboot proper ph is that harmful cause if it is i'll stop using it and what aboot liquid ph decreaser from jungle is that good i used it and it works and other ph decreasers THAT ARE SAFE

I would really like to know too what you guys think about these products...especially AmmoChips. I am looking into gettinga new filter, because the one I have now is really, really bad...I wa talkingt o a girl at the LFS (I know, be careful!) and she had suggested one that has 2 slots for 2 different medias, like carbon and AmmoChips...is this really necessary? I don't seem to have an ammonia problem. And like st. cichlid said, I am curious what you guys think about pH. I use Seachem's pH Neautral Regulator every time I do a water change.

the PH up and down products are just a quick fix and wont last long then your back to the same old problem, ive also heard those chemicals will make you have false readings. IMO I wouldnt trust using them get your readings were they belong the right way water changes , tank maintanence ect..

If you remove all of your ammonia, what will the bacteria feed upon?

It's just a short term fix. Ammo chips are meant so that if the levels are so bad it's dangerous that the amonia can be changed into a less toxic form until the fishkeeper can sort the situation out properly.

I have used proper ph in the past but I wouldn't recommend it long term. If the ph of the tap water is ok then don't change it. A stable ph is more important than a perfect one, fish can adapt no problem to a slightly off ph. If it's more than slightly off then the cause must be found and then go from there.
