does anyone know or have experience with these fish ? i have a male bolivian ram, and would like an american flag fish but wondering if the ram would pick on him or her? any suggestions would be appreciated.

My son has a pair and loves them. They do a good job of keeping the algae cleaned up but also do eat some plants, especially anacharis. All he has are stems, lol. Not certain about the rams although I think they are fairly peaceful except when breeding. From my understanding of flag fish though, I think you would be better off with at least 2 rather than just one.

thanks for the reply :) i would like to get 2, but my lfs only 'has' 2 in their shop and i believe there is a male and a female.... would this be alright?

i have 4 american flag fish in the same tank as some angel fish and they are doing fine. the angel fish chase the flag fish while they a breeding but apart from that they are fine.

my flags are even trying to breed at the min, i will see how things go.
Males normally have the red and while stripes. females are much plainer, grey with a blue spot and a black spot on their dorsal (top) fin.

I don't think that would be a problem but not sure. I don't think the male would harass the female like livebearers when you only have one each but I'm definitely not an expert on them.
