Great pictures and very informative. I have been thinking about getting a few and now I will be!
Do they count as fish when it comes to stock levels?

you don't have to worry about stock levels for the shrimp. they contribute very little to the bioload it wouldn't really matter much. the main thing you have to worry about is overcroding your tank. if you have a lot of fish as it is, then the shrimp won't have room and the other fish will have less room. stay within reason and it should ork out great for you!

Hi,

I bought 3 amano shrimp at the weekend and added them to a tank with silver tipped tetra and platies. Mine are very brave as they have settled right in. I expected them to hide and be nervous but no they are running round they tank like they own the place.

Perhaps mine are just very out going.

Not just yours...

We've just put 5 in, and my God... They're like little marauding thugs! I don't know about them being shy, as they've even pushed the Kribs out the way to get to some frozen food!

I have 4 ghost shrimp in my 20 gallon. They swim around....quickly...too. They bounce from plant to plant and do not seem shy at all. If I don't see them for a while, I just drop a small algae wafer in a corner of the tank and they will ALL show up rather quickly.

Shrimp are fun additions to a planted tank, just as long as they have places to perch and hide.

I totally agree - the are just such wonderful creatures bursting with character - and little thugs they are indeed! They are forever stealing the sinking carnivore pellets and running off with them so that the poor fish can't even come close. And believe me - they hang on the to pellet for hours ! It's too precious
