if i am not mistaken (others correct me if i'm wrong) shrimp need to be in large groups (like 6+) and still then they will hide. i have heard rumors that they tend to come out more at night. i don't know how true that is but it's what i have been told.

Hi Number 1 Jasper. I bought 2 amano shrimps last week and posted a similar thread cos I didn't see them for a few days. Now I see them most days wondering round when my lights are on, they even try to pinch the food off my corys! Added another 2 today. They are quite fascinating once they get use to the tank and start to show themselves.
We have red cherry shrimp in 3 of our tanks and in each and every tank they behave differently!!The ones in my sons tank tend to only hide when they are sulking If we take longer than normal on a water change or move anything around, add new plants or such like then they disappear for a few days and 'sulk' all the others in the other tanks are pretty much always out and about be it at night with lights off or during the day. I am sure once your shrimp get used to the tank they will come out more and when they realise what is happening at feeding time - just you watch!!!But have plenty of time on hand because if you are anything like I am you will be glued to the tank once they are out
