Amano Shrimp

Thanks a lot T-F biggrin.gif Are you saying that the Neons will eat the Cherry's babies/eggs? I don't really mind though I don't want to have my tank filled with babies :good: Anyways thanks again for the info :)
Yep the neons will eat the baby shrimp....heh....i think thats the first time i've been able to say "the neons will eat them" rather than "they will eat the neons".

hey all
will they eat any of my guppy fry? could do with sum natural selection tbh smile.gif if they wont what will?
thanks
Greg
Natural selection wise.....It depends on the tank. I cant think of many inverts that will eat the babies but not the adults. Maybe ghost shrimp, but i don't know since I've never even seen any of them up here -_- .
Although adult triops cancriformis may be an option, they wont last too long and are a bit too much effort just for that.
Only real option is a bigger fish...maybe a gourami. My friend had one that controlled his guppy population :good: .

Do the shrimp ever try and escape from the tank? I.e. by climbing up the airline or filter cord?

Jee

Amano shrimp cant walk out of water and i don't think other small shrimp can either. Crayfish and the like can though, so there could be other shrimp that can.
You will need to cover the holes in the lid though, since they can jump :) .

Do you have any advice on what size fish would be suitable to keep with amano shrimp?

I have heard Amano shrimp can jump out of the tank, though mine have never done that. When you net them, they act very different from cherries though. Cherries just curl up and go limp and wait to be transfered to the other tank. Amano Shrimp can continue to crawl around outside of water, and could easily crawl right out of a net before they dry out I think. So make sure to be careful if you ever need to move them.

Oh yes they can... and they can move pretty quick too :)

Just try netting them to move tanks they run up the net and jump!

Its like catching shrimp at the beach, but with a very small net  . Not as fun though since thye can hurt themselves though.
