I got an Amano shrimp yesterday,I watched him for a while after putting him in the tank and it was great watching him take straight to the task of cleaning up all the crap on my plants and ornaments..but after a few hours, and up to now,he hasnt been doing it any more, every time i go to the tank i have to spend 15 minutes looking for him to find that he is very cleverly hidden away (deep in plants or in a nook in ornaments)

The danios seem to be constantly searching through the plants for him (they dont normally swim into the leaves)

Is he hiding because he is petrified? will the danios eat him when they find him? will he hide forever and not get food?

Does anyone keep danios with amanos?

Most likely it's because you only have one amano shrimp - they should be kept in groups.

If it's small, on it's own and surrounded by fast moving fish it's no suprise it's hiding :).

Get a few more :good:.

I totally agree.

When I first brought home my 3 Amano Shrimp (for a 5G Betta Tank) They did hide behind the filter until they felt comfortable.

They do need to be in groups, and the more the better. after a day or so, mine were, and still are, very bold, they even carry little snails around, cleaning their shells lol

I dont know the size of your tank, but Shrimp have a very small footprint in terms of their Bioload, do get some friends for your llittle guy asap. :good:

God damned LFS eh, I asked if 1 would be ok on his own and they said yes,he's moving around a little bit today, maybe he's just resting between cleaning but i havent seen him cleaning much since when i first popped him in the tank. Problem is i am more than likely moving house in a couple of months or so and dont really wanna spend 20 quid on shrimps that ill have to give back to the LFS (as i cant take the fish through a 48 hour move)

Tank details are in sig and i think he may be afraid of the danios as they seem to be hunting in the live plants for him (he is currently in a nook on one of my ornaments but did walk around on the gravel for me earlier when i was snapping away with my camera (altho none of the pics i took are in focus lol)
