I've just performed the mammoth task of swapping my gravel for sand. I hope my filter is going to do all the bacteria work after removing all the gravel...

It's a 125 litre with a fluval 4 plus. I have the following fish:

4 x Corydoras (2 x bronze (1 of which has grown to 2 inches) and 2 x peppered)
4 x Danios
5 x Red Finned Tetra
1 x Dwarf Gourami (re-homed his accomplice after they fought each other)

This tank / fish combination has been going fine for about 8 months now with no losses! Do you guys think this tank is at it's limit or room for a couple more??
Thanks

yeah I agree with above - how about adding some more to your schools ? Or somthing for the top like hatchets or maybe a small group of panchax? I like the yellow ones. - Could maybe go for some dwarf SA cichlids like some apistos, rams or some kind of dwarf acara, not sure how these would mix with the gourami - I hear mixed things about how they do together.

i agree with wills with the ram idea would look lovely as a center piece fish and some schools of hatchets or tetras etc would look great too!

wow love the apistos! never seen them at my LFS though.. The gourami is a little character, he wasn't too happy when I introduced the red fins lol. I'd like to keep an eye on this sand I've now got but money is burning a hole today!

i would up th corys danios and tetras to 6 they will be alot happyer and then get a pair of bolovian rams or a trio of apisto.

thanks. definitely happy to up the Corys but to be honest cant wait until the Danios go.. they're a bit.. pointless IMO. I really like the rams and apistos, never come across them before! I think I should look for a new LFS. Out of interest, could the small shoal of my Red Fin Tetra be the reason they're lacking colour? They seem really dull, very pale red in fins.

What are your water stats like? More may help, it could also be what your are feeding, or lack of. Keep in mind though, Rams can be a little hard to keep. You need to be very diligent with your water changes.

They're fed: Nutrafin Max Flakes. They sometimes manage to get the King British Catfish pellet food intended for the Corys. On occasion they get blood worm (from frozen).
I'm desperate to pick up a water test kit tomorrow (when i get paid!) as my last one ran out at the weekend.. as I've just done huge change from gravel to sand and worried its messed up the bacteria. Could stress effect their colouring much?

Something else that bothers me.. how important is the current/stream within the tank in terms with what fish like? Apparently my Dwarf Gourami prefers still water whereas all my other fish like fast streams to swim against. My InternalFluval4+ on its lowest setting is still quite strong. Are Rams ok with that?

Sorry. questions! questions! questions!

I looked at the ingredients and it seems okay. Maybe they could benefit from a color flake that is higher in shellfish though. You can also give them occasional spirulina flake (another good color enhancer.)

Yes, you better check the water asap. It could have negatively effected water quality which would stress the fish and they would lose color.

Current isn't too big a deal for most fish, just make sure their is sufficient surface movement to allow for gas exchange.

Ok I had a couple of drops left in my WaterTestKit. 0 ammonia. 0 nitrite. 0 nitrate. But PH looks high (8 or 9 which is top end of chart and "poor water conditions")! How can I get PH down and what could cause it to be so high?

I have just added 2 Royal Rams and 2 more bronze corys!!!! :hyper: The bloke at LFS tried to catch me what he thought was a female and a male (Rams) so fingers crossed they are.. haven't had a good look at them yet.. will get my first proud pics up tomorrow when I can put the lights back on

Im no expert at lowering Ph but if you add bog wood that usually lowers the Ph naturaly - you might have to watch the Rams in such a high Ph tank they usually need a lower Ph close to 7 or lower. Congrats on the new fish :)

I think you should add an angelfish!

It would look good. :hyper:

bronze and peppered corydoras along with the zebra danios prefer temperatures of about 22-25 degrees whereas rams (german blue, or royal in your case) MUST be kept at 28-32 degrees with 30 being preferable...if you dont they will more than likely die a lot earlier than they should do.

you cannot keep cories at this temperature as it will kill them, bar sterbai, schultzei and a few others.

i would suggest taking them back
