Plants use amonia etc to grow.

Ammonia is toxic to all aquatic life forms including plants, plants use nitrAtes as a food source but the ammount of nitrAtes used is dependent on lighting and co2 levels within the tank.
According to books I have read plants use the amonia-nitrite-nitrate to help them grow. Especially nitrate.

However, this is only done when the lights aren't on.

Maybe I got it wrong?

Bol
I'll use one hand to gently brush the surface of the gravel in heavily planted places, while holding the siphon near with the other hand (kind of like using a hand broom and dust pan). Gets most of the major waste up, without disturbing the plants too much.
Good idea, after vacuuming about 20% water out there's still loads of waste left around the plants. I'll try that when I get home tonight.

every 2 months or so I do rearrange the plants a bit
Are your plants still potted? I've planted mine in the gravel so wouldn't be too sure about moving them. I could move the decorations about though.

Are some angelfish smaller than others or do they all grow huge?

Hey Tenko :)

My plants are not potted I find they grow much better out of the pots.I just move them carefully being extra carefull with the roots.Anyway its just something I do,not for everyone.

I think some angelfish may end up smaller than others but there is really no way of knowing but even the smaller ones will still get big

Would you like to see some pics of mine??

That would be good.

I've been told that fish grow to the size of the tank, this I do not believe. I've also heard that the more you feed them the larger they grow. Don't believe that one either, except a bit fatter perhaps.

Fish growing to the size of a tank is a total myth but the feeding thing may be somewhat true because one of my angels(the biggest pig)is quite alot bigger than the other one.Who knows :dunno:

IDK if this has been said but this is a good chance for tetras to be eaten by angels as they are their natural prey
Neons are defiatley angels natural scran but I am nt sure about other tetras as I have 3 cardinal and 4 x-ray and they have no problems with my 4 angels.

Doesn't mean this will be the case for everyone though, eh?!
