The guy said they are wild at my lfs and i trust those guys there cuz they dont sell fish to ppl who have oscars in tanks less the 75 gals. and i looked in one of my books and it shows to kinds of angels, angels bred in captivity and wild angels and iev seen both.well from what ive seen ive seen preety nice plecs ryan, but not rare ones, we have like pepermints and gibiceps and royals and commons and bnoses. my mistake dogg, ;)

sorry to banter again, but royal plecs are also illegal in Australia. It's a wonder how you manage to find these fish

Wasn't it Coca Cola that tried bottling remineralised RO water and selling it as spring water? I think I'd be just about as successfull!

Well - got my Altums yesterday morning and they look superb.
I have total trust in my local outlet and also in the supplier they use here in the UK.
Thanks for the RO advice - I'll seriously have to consider that if I decide to breed them later on.
Regarding availability:
These are genuine wild Orinoco's and I'm told that the UK supplier has said that these are the first he's had for a couple of years now.
If you want to get hold of some - and have a trusty local outlet - ask them to 'get some in'. That's all I did.
They are all roughly the same size and their body size is that of a UK 50p coin. They cost me £13.99 each and I got six.
I have them in a tank with a shoal of Cardinals and seven mixed Corys - Trilineatus, Similis and Sterbai.
The tank is only 3ft and I know I'm going to need bigger as they grow - just got to convince the wife!
I have a great piece of bogwood in there with Hagen Aquascaper plastic plants - Jungle Vallis, Amazon Swords and Hairgrass. I know that plastic plants are a 'no-no' for many aquarists - I do know why - I do know what the benefits are - but I also know what the problems can be. Another reason is that my filtration is via a powerhead driven UGF system and I don't think live plant roots would do so well with that kind of filtration. I'd appreciate any comments or advice to the contrary.

Well - 10 days after introducing the six Altums, all are doing well. I've already got them feeding on any frozen food I can give them - and dried foods! Yes - Flake, Prima and some Doromin.
All are out and about swimming along the front of the tank - except for one - the biggest one! It's the most timid of the bunch but does come out when there's food on the go!
Anyone else recently purchased Altums here in the UK???

I found a lfs selling P. Dumerilii and was seriously tempted by this rare fish. Unfortunately they are not a patch on the regal look of the altum so I passed up the chance. Hope they get some altums in some day soon!
