I have one of these fish measuring about 1 and a quarter inches. It rarely comes out of hiding. If I include 2 more are they likely to group and appear more often.
Thanks.

I don't have any experience with that particular fish, but I just wanted to welcome you to the forum. :good: Someone more knowledgable should be by soon to answer your question

Thank you Coleen that is very kind of you. Not being an expert, I hope someone can help!

I'm not much of an expert on Rift valley cichlids either; how long have you had the fish? It may just need time to settle in.

I'd try re-posting in the 'Old world cichlid' forum; that's where all the Tang lovers hang out :good:

Unfortunately they are quite shy, especially when new and need quite a few weeks to settle in. What other fish do you have in the tank? A group of shoaling fish may bring him out abit by making him feel safer. cheers

I have Peacocks Aps and a small Lelupi and 2 Labs.Only had new fish 1 week.

Well, give him time then, he'll come round.

Make sure you drop a few tasty morsels into his hiding place every now and then :good:

As said they can take quite a few weeks to settle. If hes eating i wouldnt worry. plus they are a rockdweller so i wouldnt expect to see him swimming all over the tank unless its feeding time. cheers

I have a yellow/goldhead compressicep in my Tanganyikan setup along with 2 black calvus. The calvus tend to spend most of their time in the rocks but the comp is always out and about and I think it`s because it feels more comfident because of the cyprichromis in the tank.

They are known to be shy and will take a while to become confident in their surroundings. :/

Hi I have 3 calvus, I started with 1 and he/she was exactly the same. I have a group of bossy shellies and I moved them into another tank and then the calvus came out more to rule the tank. I then got another 2 which he chases about but they seem pretty tough. I too have cyps. If you get more try to get the same size roughly :good:

 Thank you all for help. The little fish is now coming out several times a day!!!
