Allergy to bloodworm?

I agree. But then again, I worked at a zoo, so I was chopping rats in half to feed to hawks, sorting mealworms for the live feed room, and cleaning up left over vulture food that was all maggoty, so...

Yuck...too much info!

ewwww!

I guess I'm just really squeamish! Dunno what it is and I've been up to my knees in cow manure so it's not the unhygenic nature of it. More the fact that they once wriggled!

Creepy!

You worked at a zoo too? I interned at Miami Metro in FL. I would feed the small arachnids and reptiles. I ripped the heads off crickets to feed the little scorpions. Not as bad as chopping rats in half, but I made a fellow intern faint once because I did it in front of him. This was all done with a Burmese python wrapped around my waist. He liked me. :D Cool that you worked in a zoo, though. :)

I don't touch them because I am allergic as well...but even if I wasn't..they stink so bad I don't want it on my hands lol.

I wear gloves when I work with them..and I try my best to not get any anywhere near my face...and afterwards I take a benedryl lol.

If you read the pack you will see the disclaimer/warning about this.

I love that the "NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION" is in really bold red letters. Made me  I wonder how many people would actually eat a bloodworm? That would be great thread, how much money would someone have to pay you to eat a bloodworm? Benedryl was a great invention, that reminds me... Must take my dose now.

Pfft. If someone would pay the price of a 75 gallon tank with hood, filter, substrate, and plants, I would eat a whole darn bag of the things.
Anyone want to rise to that challenge? My goldfish really need a new tank...

I kinda like the....

"Product of China" and the "Superior San Fransisco Bay brand product"

I'm like.."hmm last time I checked San Fransisco wasn't in China".

I wonder if that "human consumption" coincides with not giving them to fish intended for human consumption -_- .

Maybe there was a recent shift in plate techtonics? No, I pretty much think that it's a warning not to eat the bloodworms! People are sometimes not the brightest stars in the sky.

LMAO @ someone allergic to them eating them and then having to tell the people at the ER what they did  .

"Um, yes, doctor, that's right . . . yes, I know it said it wasn't for humans but I just had to try . . ."

Saddest part is, I can so think of some people I know who might just do it

I'm doubly glad I'm not allergic to them now . . . I'm allergic to antihistamines, so I wouldn't be able to take Benadryl even if I did puff up!

It took me quite some time to understand what you people were talking about. Ok, so the "humans" have the allergies and not the fish !!

Doh!!!

**akudewan** dodges packets of bloodworms thrown at him

Oh man, I use bloodworms every day, so this thread is making me really glad I'm not allergic! My LFS owner is extremely allergic to them... along with pretty much everything else on earth, haha.

Our packets just seem to come with bloodworm written on in every language but english!

Hmmm..... I buy them from a well known chain, i think i feel a claim coming on!

How nasty would it be for a fish to be allergic :(

P.S. Much respect to you brave people who can cut animals up and stuff. YOu got more B**ls than me!
