just got off the phone with my dad and he informed me that this past week all the platies and swordies (5 total) in our 55 gallon died. nothing else though, and we've got various tetras, bumblebee gobies, plecos, and shrimp. so he went to get the water tested, said that the guy was pretty knowledgable and was told that the ph might have been a little off for them.
i thought that platies and swords could handle a wider range and were a lot hardier than something like a neon tetra (which we also have in there). anyone know what could have happened? we've had them in there for around five months without any problems until now.

|Anything new added to the tank? or just after a water change?

no, no change at all. that's why my dad actually got the water tested. normally he would never bother with something like that when a random fish dies. but this time was different because all the ones that were of the same (or similar) kind died.

More often than not it's going to be a problem with the water conditions...

Have you got a full list of tank parameters?

www :)

it could be old age, that happened to mine once.

no i dont know anything about the water, the guy just said the only thing that was off was the ph a bit. i don't think they died of old age, they were pretty young

How off was the ph as that can affect alot of fish.
