i know i neglect my freshwater tank a bit but...how bad is it if I feed my fish 4 or 5 times a week?

Don't get me wrong, i baby my saltwater fish, but my freshwater tank isn't anywhere i would normally walk by them. it's in my bedroom so i normally see it all morning when i get ready for the day but sometimes i get lazy at night and figure they wouldn't eat every day....

So my question is, "Is there anything wrong with feeding my freshies 5 times a week?". I try to justify it sayin' they won't get fed EVERYDAY in the wild....But that sounds to me like an obvious excuse.

My tank is still thriving, but should i baby the freshie like the saltie?

Edited to add that my freshwater tank has 5 dwarf puffer, a small school of tiger barbs, a couple different plecos, and a few guppies

If you have female guppys, you need to feed them regualy when they are pregnant as they'll get malnutritioned and thus shorten their life expectancy in the long run. Although its fine to starve your fish every now and then i would try not to make a long term habit of it, its shouldn't be a big effort just to feed your fish.
It may be best that you somhow spend more time in your bedroom so you are around your fish more- try to read a book in there everyday or do your homework there or go there to chill out at the end of the day after work, install your laptop/computer there or a little TV and console just so you are around your freshwater fish more and so take more of an interest in them  .

My dwarf puffer gets fed every other day, so do my gobies. Which means they get fed 3 or 4 times a week. Nothing wrong with that. The barbs will be fine with this as well, same for the plec. With the guppies though, I don't know ... not into livebearers myself, so take Tokis advice for that 1 :)

If you only feed them 5 times a week (which is actually quite alright for predatory fish) I recommend moving your guppies to a different tank, specially seeing as hunrgy dwarf puffers and barbs are not to be trusted.

I only feed my adult fish 3 times a week, twice for the really big ones. Only juvinile and spawning fish need feeding every day, adults can go a week without food without any problems.

I feed mine about 3 -4 times a week, just cause the rays are soo small. Once they are bigger and have more fat storage on them, about 3 times a week. Seriously, better to underfeed than overfeed, increasing nitrates is never good eh?
:S

I'm being generous if I feed my fish more than 4 times a week. They get fed every two or three days depending on my free time and how much they were fed before.

thanks for the replies. the female guppies still have most of their big tails. only a little nipping here and there and I haven't added any fish or anything to the tank since last September or October. Hopefully they'll continue to co-exist fine in the future. The tank also has lots of real and fake plants, and other items to hide in so I think that helps
