prpbably going to be moving house in a few months , and when this happens , im probably going to upgrade my 4x2x2 for a 6x2x2 . now my 4x2x2 is fairly heavy , but 2 men can lift it easily enough. could the same be said for a 6x2x2?

Having just sold my rio 400, I can safely say, it took 3 of them to move it and a 6 x 2 x 2 is gonna be even heavier. You would be best looking for 3 mates to help you out, 2 either end. And YAY on a larger tank :D

Definitely 4 in all to carry it, 2 at each end means one can shuffle about where needed whilst the other takes the load when not moving, and make sure everyone is wearing good gloves, that tank will be heavy and can do serious damage to hands/fingers if not careful!

thought that would be the case. looks like i may have to ply a couple of mates with beer flavoured bribes

had considered comprimising and getting a 5x2x2 but decided if im gonna upgrade i may as well make it worthwhile

As many people as possible really, not worth the risk if someone slips or grip goes.

When I had a tank delivered, the courier had a special 'harness' with some type of suction cups which made lifting the tank really easy.

Yeah when I went to pick up my 6x2x2 before I saw the crack and we started moving it we could tell how heavy it was.

If your getting one I really would recommend getting a new one made and get them to include delivery and putting it in possition. A bargain second hand one is in no way shape or form worth the hassle and stress of moving a second hand one your self lol. Its not something I will ever go through again.

Good luck with it though and as always PICS!!! :D

what courier was that shroob?

Sorry, I can't recall the name exactly (was around 7 years ago at least), but it was some tank building company based in Rotherham that may have ceased to trade now.

A google search pulls up the name 'Fit Filtration' and their logo looks familiar, they say they offer delivery and installation services, so it might be them. The only thing thats throwing me is they are in Sheffield, and I remember going to Rotherham to look at their shop/workshop. I suppose they could have moved though, might be worth an email at least.

cheers shroob , i will check em out.

wills , i will be getting a new one , probably from nd . i did check out aquariums ltd , but they wanted over 600 quid for the cabinet..............erm dont think so!!!!!!!!!

i will of course post pics a plenty , but as i said this probably wont be happening for a few months yet.

I had fun moving Nelly's 5x2x2 from one side of the garage to the other, so that I can utilise natural sunlight in the short term for the fish that will be moving in tomorrow from the Rio240 (Opsarius pulchellus; Barilus dogarsinghi; Barilius canarensis/sp.2 bakeri; Puntius denisonii; Garra flavatra), all being well. My back is letting me know it lifted some weight today, ~100Kg, with the father-in-law!

But it should be worth it, I cannot wait to upgrade my energetic and boisterous fish to a bigger home, not to mention give the Parambassis pulcinella and Alestopeterous caudialis "a break" from the agro they have endured the last few weeks.

Top tip of the day (based on hindsight): Only ever buy fish which you know you can comfortably house at the time you buy them. Do not buy fish for "pipe dream" tanks that are not a reality at that moment in time. You risk claustrophia-related quarrels; disease and stressful fish keeping.

hello Mark

me and my mate lifted my 60x30x24 which weighed a ton. My ates a builder and I;m quite big but we did it with the two of us. Maybe a third person to be safe

ha ha or me mate hes called Big Jim!!! my son whos 8 tomorrow still believes he eatys bricks!! lol

My 6ft was lifted by my brother and Dad (and myself a bit) and we used a truck with sides that could be lowered to get it on/off easily. They are #41#### heavy items (I lifted and carried the 5ft it replaced...I might be a woman but I'm pretty strong) and if you can get extra hands I highly recommend it. The only real problems are at doorways when it will be two people taking the weight. Best of luck.
P.
P.S:Or get one installed new. I so totally want one when I move since I'm after an 8ft if the new place can accomodate it. :hyper:

Me and my grandad lifted my 5x2x2 but if im honest we only hat to carry it about 2m because it was going at the front of the garage so we just reversed the van up the drive. Like others have said i would take 2 mates to be on the safe side.
