Came across this Algone stuff.

Is it needed or should i say can you just use it or is it better to use only if you have a problem?

Or just stay away from it?

Don't use it. Chemicals are only necessary when treating for illness or dechlorinating the water. Algone will kill your algae, but it'll probably kill your bacteria too and cause an ammonia spike.

The less chemicals added to a tank the better. Good fish keeping husbandary will give you the same results.

Many people seem to think that the "active" ingredient in Algone is the same that's found in barley straw.
