Do fantails eat algea disks. I bought a huge bag for my BN plec and will take him ages to get through so was thinking about feeding them to my goldies!
yes you can feed them the algae discs. goldfish need algae in the diet and this is a good way of getting it, just dont feed too often and make sure the pieces are small enough so they dont choke. a goldfish has tiny teeth like raspers at the back of the throat and it might look like they are choking, but they are actually chewing and some fish can just literally stop moving and sink while concentrating on the chewing.
Its funny I saw this. I just got home from getting my ryukin a new friend (oranda) so she won't feel so lonely in the 55 gallon and picked up some algae disks for the apple snails to munch on. I didn't know the goldfish were going to dive after them but they sure did. After watching them frantically rasp at the disc for a while to no avail, I had to break it up into small pieces and they ate it.
Oh well....will have to come up with a different method for the snails to get some.
