Does this look like algae (on the plant)?? It appears white in the day then at night it looks brown.

when i did a water change today it stirred it up (its also on the gravel and rocks)

I also have higher than normal levels of ammonia and nitrite if that helps the i.d.

thanks

what are the readings on ur ammonia and nitrites....as i thought your tank is going through the cycling process again...when you can clean out your tank in tap water, but you should never clean the filter in tap water and kills off the bacteria need to sustain good water quality....if you do need to clean the filter when you are doing a water change you should clean it in the tank water you have removed that way the bacteria is not destroyed.

if you have high levels of ammonia and nitrites you should do probably a 25% water changed everyday until they are at 0...

and yes it does just look like hair algae to me...you can get products to stop algae...but regular water changes should keep it down as algae feeds of nitrates and when you do a water change you remove nitrates from the water
