Sorrell, gorgeous Betta shots on your sig there. Wow, I can't imagine doing 100% water changes to get rid of algae. That's a ton of work. Yikes. I doff my cap to your dedication to your fishies.
I used ottochinclus in with my Betta but I think he intimidated them. The boy has attitude. I moved them to my 25 gal community tank, they like it way better. I find good old snails, the kind that turn up with any live plant purchase, keep my tanks really clean. I couldn't stand scrubbing algae every day and the ottos couldn't keep up in a 25 gal. anyway. I'll be curious to hear what you do and how it works. If the snails are small my Betta uses them as Crunch n Munch... but the larger snails work great at keeping the 5 gallon real clean. I can't feed them algae wafers or peas because my Betta decides those are for him instead. Little porker!
