Algae :(

So far weed is still booming. Even after 'brushing' few anubiases with tooth brush. Still on same plants. Cryptocarynas is weed free but yet again not growing & still so tiny less than an inch :(
I thought investment in proper light will do  good to my plants but no :(
Using Seachem Flourish once a week for past 2 weeks. Also cleaned both my filters. Water quality is amazing - ammonia. nitrite & nitrate all on 0. I wish I could make a garden there too...

I'm assuming that this algae is due to my light settings.
I have 4 channels:  1& 4 is white light, 3 is green+red+white, 2 is blue light.
So I set them up as channel #3 is my main light it turns on at 10:30 at 5% 12:30 30% 14:30 80% 15:00 45%: 21:00 0%
Channel 1&4: 10:30 3% 12:30 25% 14:30 45% 16:15 30% 21:00 0%
Channel 2: starts at 8:55 on 1% 10:30 3% 12:30 20% 14:30 45% 18:15 35% 21:00 to 23:00 1% I'm not sure what blue light does & if I need it during day or not
Any other set up I should try?
White light in total duration 11:30 but high light is only 30 mins.  Dont know should I shut down Ch#2 & keep up only white lihjt for few hours or what?

Hi.when I tried to find a balance for my tank.i had to use flourish excel every couple of days.this worked along with reduction in light.altered flow around my tank(the flow was too high up in position so I added 2 internals too) and reduced nutrients ie feeding.i don't think that it will ever be totally gone but it's perfectly under control.some of my plants that at first were covered were removed and immediately replaced.trying to out compete the algae is key.hydrogen peroxide is used also at times to spot treat but I didn't find great results with it.

I would remind you of what Rob and I both mentioned earlier, that being that it takes a few weeks after you change something.  I cannot say much about the light as I have no idea how bright (intense) it is.  But remember that periods when only the blue light is on will encourage algae as plants cannot make much use of this without balanced red.  As for the algae, is it increasing, or just staying?  What was already present will not disappear, but what will tell you things are improving is if it does not increase after the changes.  Algae on Anubias is due to light brighter than what this plant needs; floating plants can often solve this problem.

Byron.

If you are looking for faster results in the black brush algae dying, you can do 'spot treatments' with Flourish Excel.  BUT, you will want to make sure that you do not use too much in a single day.  And I'd suggest that you would want to limit the flow during that time so that it remains on the plants you are spot treating... say about 10-15 minutes... then turn it back on, and do another treatment the next day or two.

Just remember that algae will return if the cause is not resolved.  Algae is a oportunistic, and can use light that is insufficient for plants, or light that is greater in intensity than what the specific plants need in balance.  B.

I agree completely with what Byron is saying.  The spot treatment is only going to get rid of what you have currently, and if the cause hasn't been dealt with, it will return.   Hopefully the other changes you've made will eliminate the growth and the spot treatment will deal with what is already there.
