Right i got a algae eater and i been putting in half a algae wafer for him/her but when he sees me he swims and hides and my guppies and platys eat the lot...Is that ok or will it hurt them??????? :fish:

Hi Miss Donna,

It won't hurt the other fish eating the wafers. Mine do that too.

However, you should ensure that your algae eater is getting some food. It might be worth trying feeding the wafers after lights out. This sometimes encourages shy or nocturnal fish to come out and feed.

Let us know how you get on.

Cheers :good:

Most fish don't need much food to survive, since they're cold blooded. It might be enough if he were getting the whole wafer, but as it is, probably not.

For my algae eaters, I put a leaf of lettuce or a slice of zucchini in the tank overnight every night (lettuce you can weigh down with a rock, zucchini, stick a fork through it. No need to spend money on a vegetable clip). They eat at their leisure while you're not around, and there's enough that other fish won't hog it, and it's heavy enough that other fish won't carry it away.

:good: Wow what a great idea can i use any kind of lettuce lol like iceberg for instance?? God i feel stupid asking that question but obviously dont wanna harm them...
