I was told by my lfs that algae wafers have now been banned due to a ruling by the EU, is this right? Does this ruling also apply to foods such as Tetra plecomin tablets as well? He sold me Tetra variety wafers but these haven’t gone down well at all.

Yeah I know what you mean I’ve searched for any related stories on the web, can’t find anything & they are still readily available on to buy except the brand my lot like.
May be he it only applies to a particular brands. Which is not good because finding a brand my cories, plecs & sailfins liked to start with was a job as they completely turned their nose up to most.

Ive not heard that either....if it is true my bristlenose plecs and my blue lobster will be distraught coz they love them.

Hi The_lion :)

This was discussed some time ago. If I recall, it had something to do with Hikari wafers, not any of the other brands.

You might want to look for Wardley's Spirulina Discs. They are a particular type of algae and my corys love them. :D

Cheers for that will be having a look for them today i'm going to a place i've read sale mostly Cats & L-number fish so they should be able to help

That is the biggest load of rubbish I have ever heard. There is no ingrediant in algae waffers that are illegal. I think that someone is just trying to make a fuss for nothing.

If you specifically do want to buy Hikari Range Wafers (in the UK), Birstall sell them online. The postage is not cheap, but worth it

I couldn't imagine having to go without any of Hikari foods. My oranda goldfish got HUGE and beautiful with that as the primary diet and my plecos did on the algae wafers. Now that I got cories that is the first thing I got for them....Hikari shrimp wafers.

What Fuss? Simple question about something I was told at an lfs, I thought it was strange that’s why I’ve asked, as inchworms answer shows it’s not complete rubbish just applies to a particular brand question answered the world moves on & me sail fin’s will have their favourite wafers for dinner.

their not strictly illigal they changed an ingrediant in them which made the illigal to import untill they get the licence to inport them again :)
