Hey there I just recently changed from a gravel substrate to a sand one. Well now that its been a few weeks algae has begun to grow on the sand almost in small balls. Either way its too heavy for my syphon to pick up. Is there any way to get it out or clean it off?? Also on the same topic does anyone know of any good ways to stop algae growth so this doesnt happen again??

algae growth can be dur to ammonia spike, too much ferts (or not enough if you have high lighting), too much lighting, low CO2. There is an algae guid e in my sig if that helps.

i just kept rubbing the sand between my fingers and up-turning it.

Hi Schooly

Can you describe the Algae - is it blue/green and slime like?

Cheers

The main causes of this are build ups of ammonia/fish waste in an area. What is the filtration like in your tank?

I had a dead spot where a piece of wood was blocking the flow to one corner of my tank.

I removed the wood and the BGA went away.
