I originally had 3.5W/G, CO2 injection and constantly fought growths of algae. I tried EI for a while but always ended with massive algae outbreaks.

3 Months ago I decided to go Low Tech and turned one of my lights out and turned off the CO2. The result was that the plants still grew and the algae has been much reduced. I still had a little green hair algae that mostly grew on the wood in the tank. Today I went home for lunch and the hair algae was gone, not a sign of it.

Wierd.

This is what happened with my tank, baaaad (very bad) algae when i set it up. I turned off the extra light , turned off the co2 for about a week, and bam, algae gone.

Just be glad its not there any more. :D

If you take care of things and have enough CO2 with high light etc, it works just fine, the problem was you, not the method:)
But if you find a method that works for you, then stick with it but realize that you your mistake was CO2, 90-99% of CO2 enriched tank issues are well, CO2.

I nag folks about this all the time, but they seldom listen, they often think it's some obscure nutrient imbalnce.

You may consider trying CO2 again but this time make sure you add enough, EI rules out the nutrient issues, all that's left is CO2........
