Anyone have ideas for algae eaters in brackish water? I was looking at otos or bristlenose pleco, but want to get more info on their toleration of brackish water...

There are no brackish algea eaters, ottos and bristlenoses will soon perish in brackish conditions (SG of 1.005 and above) freshwater fish should never be exposed to a SG above 1.001.
Scats and monos will both nibble at hair and thread algea but there is no brackish tolerant fish that will eat algea off of glass, to keep the tank clean of algea you will have to scrape it off the glass yourself.

Thanks for the help, guess a little elbow grease doesn't hurt anyone... I do this anyway, but have had some problems with brown algae. Maybe will get a couple plants, but probalby some difficulty with brackish too. Got to love the trouble you go to for a couple bumble bee gobies :)

Actually there are alage eaters that can live in brakish water. The Algae Eating Olive Nerite Snail. These little fellas are actually about the size of a dime or a marble, and have neat little barnacles growing on the shells. Probably about the best algae eating snail for aquariums in the world, as they DO NOT reproduce in freshwater, but only in brackish or saltwater. They may lay "pretzel- salt-looking" eggs, but they won't hatch unless the eggs are laid in, at least, brackish water.

STOCK about 1 per gallon or more. a brackish water snail (brackish water is where they are prolific. Excellent algae eating snail for freshwater aquariums. Will NOT harm plant life.
