Yeah, I know, I am full of questions today. LOL

Ok, for algae eaters for my bettas, first I tried plecos, TWICE. In a matter of days, both died. Ok, scratch that. Then I tried snails. While I have several of those still alive, I have had 2 of my bettas kill theirs! (1 male betta and 1 female betta.) What's a betta keeper to do? Anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks!

One was in a 5 and the other was in a 29. I figured, especially with the 29, there was plenty of room. No such luck though. I think the bettas stress them out too much. That's my guess anyway.

Thanks!

All my tanks are filtered, so yes it was.

I have no idea what kind of pleco it was. This was quite awhile ago, at least 6 months, maybe longer.

Sorry! But thank you for helping me. :)

Are those shrimp you suggested bigger than ghost shrimp? Cause my bettas like to make those a snack too. LOL Sorry, I forgot to mention them :p

What types of plecs were they? There's just gotta be a reason for their deaths other than the bettas... might they have been sick already or went though a bad transport? I would do a rubbernose plec or BN in the 29 gallon and 3 or 4 ottos in the 5 gallon... although, a 10 gallon would be better. ;)

BTW when I had a betta, he loved eating ghost shrimp, so I'm not sure if shrimps would hold up. :X

OTOS OTOS OTOS i had 2 in a 3 gallon bowl with my first betta who got allong with NOTHING, he hated shrimp, wouldnt stop bothering my snails, and i thought a cory would get to big

OTOS WORK MEMORIES
i no you guys are going to get angry, but at the time i couldnt get them from ym local fish store, so i got them at my petco, maybe that was why they were so hardy cause there used crudy enviroments? idk but they lived for ever, evenn once my betta died , they were still alive!

OTOS

well my amano shrimp is nearly the same size as my biggest girl, they dont bother it at all never tried them with males though

Thanks you all for your replies! :D

I have no idea what kind of plecos they were. Probably common, as I got them both from PetCo.

I will definetely take a look at the shrimp and the otos. :) I'll keep you posted!

Thanks again!

My bristlenose Plec totally ignores my girls.. They ignore him too and he's fab at keeping the tank algae free.

I thought I should let you guys know what I got. LOL

Yesterday I got some gold algae eaters. Most of the other things I could not find around here. We do have 2 bristlenoses, but I really like them, and didn't want to chance the bettas killing them. We just got them at a fish auction we went to last weekend.

So this morning they are still alive. Here's to hopin they stay that way!

Here's to hoping your bettas don't decide to pester their new tankmate!

I'm sorta in the same dilema as you cept I've never tryed anything yet.
My 10gal is getting infested with algae no matter what I do and I really want to add in shrimp or otos, but ugh... I'm just so afraid that my bettas would kill whatever I added.

I took a leaf from your book and bought a Chinese algae eater also today! All is well so far, he has kind of got used to the idea now, and just turns his nose up at him.

:good:
