what's a good algae eater (other than otos and bristlenose plecs) for a 20 gallon long tank that won't get harassed by rosy barbs?

If you have lots of hiding places you can try Amano Shrimp, they can actually get quite large.
Otherwise....otos or a bristlenose are probably best.

my rosy barbs will probably pick the amano shrimp to death. any other ideas?

pitbull plec is too small and american flag fish are too aggressive. any other suggestions?

I think Amano shrimp may be tougher than you think.

I was nervous about adding them to my tank with tiger barbs and chain loaches - but they've been fine.
Have you got plenty of plants/bog wood in the tank for them to hide in? If so, I would still consider them.

i don't think a pit bull plec would be to small for a 20 gallon. I wouldn't personally get one but how about Siamese or Chinese algae eaters.

siamese algae eaters and flying foxes grow too big for a 20 gallon, and i don't like chinese algae eaters.

Chinese Algae eaters get waaaaaaaaaay too big for a 20 gallon tank. I would suggest a clown pleco. They are very nice, and they stay small. I have one in my 29 gallon tank. :)
