Hi, I have a 5 gallon hexagonal tank with an udergravel filter (6 Neon Tetra, 4 Platies, and a Albino Cory Cat), recently I have been getting algae build-up on the plastic lid at the to of the tank. Is it some thing I should worry about? It builds up around the top of my air filter.

Thanks

Andy

You don't have to worry about the algae - it's easy to clean off the top of the tank. What you should be worried about is keeping so many fish in a 5 gallon hex. Unforunately hex tanks can't hold as many fish as a rectangular tank of the same volume due to the smaller surface area of the hex. You really should consider changing to a rectangular tank or decrease the amount of your fish.

one of the reasons for algae build up could be the number of fish, as more fish = more nitrates for the algae to feed on.

I have two 10 gallons set up is this adequate stocking?

1st tank
4 molly
5 cory

2nd tank
6 neon
2 otto cat
15 black convict fry (soon to be moved)

Thanks, I will get a bigger tank 10-20 gallon, but I can't afford that until 2-3 months though..... ;)

Well, I will see how it goes as the Aqurium told me I have nothing to worry about, just do a 10% water change every week and gravel vacum and do the usual test once a week and I'll be fine - so far so good.
