I have 5 of these in my African Tetra tank… some were listed as “red” and some listed as “blue”

I’m also noticing the trident on their tails, some are red, and some are black… I’m not sure it the trident color varies between the blues and reds…

I’m assuming these are of the same full scientific name, but are from possibly different locals???

Anyone aware of a good source of info on these specific fish???

This one has a red trident…

And this one a black trident…sorry, apparently the black doesn’t show up as well in the dark water, and I don’t have a very good picture of one… this one is blacker, than the one in the previous picture

I've never found a good site on them, but word of mouth says different local variations. That said, more than one local variety in the hobby has been found to be a distinct species when DNA work was done.

When I've seen them in shipments, the bags were all reds - no blues. So that strongly suggests local variations that breed true.
