One of my tiger barbs has been hiding in the back of the tank all day today, and I am starting to get worried about it. It has been acting strange, like rubbing on the plants and twisting its body if that makes any sense. I looked closely at her, but I dont see any parasites on her.

I did notice that the tips of her fins are a bit discolored, but that could be due to all the nipping that goes on in there. There are 9 barbs together in there.

Do you think it may be internal parasites? If so, how could she have gotten them, I have not added anything new to the tank in a long time as it is full.

I did buy them a new food, Tetracolor, instead of TetraMin, which is their normal food. I stoped using it as i bought it by accident, but was also wondering if the food could be the culprit?

My water tested normal, everything where it normally is. Yes the tank is cycled, has been running since August. I do weekly water changes of 25%.

Please any ideas?

My albino tetras are crazy - they hide a lot and are always bending around different plants and putting themselves in weird positions.

Maybe it's in their nature?

I think Sandy is talking about Barbs not tetra, Bear.

I am not sure Sandy it sounds like what my barbs did when I had internal bacteria problems. I am not sure that it is contagious so it may not have to be 'brought in'. Is it just the one barb/how long has it been doing it/couyld anything have been causing stress?

You say that there's nipping in the tank, could this fish be getting bullied? Stress can cause normally safe levels of a parasite to take over a fish.

Thank you for replying, I thought i was all alone. I noticed it was acting a bit strange the other day, but then it seemed to be back to normal. This morning, It is just twisting around in there. The others are chasing it away from them, which tells me there is something wrong with it. I guess I will jsut have to put it in a hospital and treat it in there. I have a broad specturm parasite killer med, so i will have to try something for it. Thanks again for answering me.
